Two Educators from Garhwal Become Part of Uttarakhand’s Landmark AI Education Journey at UNESCO IITE Awards

Uttarakhand has achieved a remarkable milestone in the field of digital education and Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled learning as the prestigious ICT & AI for Education MOOC initiative developed by SCERT Uttarakhand has been selected among the Top Six Finalists for the globally recognized AI in Education Awards 2026 by UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education.



The achievement holds special significance for Pauri Garhwal district, as two dedicated educators from the district, Dr. Atul Bamrara and Daulat Singh Gusain, were important members of the project team and contributed significantly towards the development and implementation of this innovative initiative.



The Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) is a pioneering state-level capacity-building program designed for all school teachers of Uttarakhand. The course aims to empower educators with knowledge and practical skills related to Artificial Intelligence, responsible AI usage, AI-powered educational tools, digital pedagogy, and the integration of emerging technologies into classroom teaching-learning processes. Through this initiative, teachers across Uttarakhand are being equipped to understand the opportunities and challenges associated with AI and to utilize AI tools effectively for enhancing creativity, personalized learning, assessment practices, and overall educational outcomes.



Dr. Atul Bamrara, an educator, researcher, and technology integration specialist, along with Daulat Singh Gusain, contributed as Course Developers in developing and strengthening the AI-based teacher training framework. Their expertise and commitment towards technology-enabled education supported the successful creation of a scalable model for teacher professional development.


The selection of the SCERT Uttarakhand AI initiative among the Top Six Finalists of UNESCO IITE AI in Education Awards 2026 is a proud moment for the entire state and reflects the growing potential of Uttarakhand’s education system in adopting innovative and future-ready approaches. This global recognition highlights the vision of SCERT Uttarakhand in promoting digital transformation in schools and demonstrates how educators from the Himalayan state are contributing towards shaping the future of education through responsible and meaningful use of Artificial Intelligence.
