The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Pauri Garhwal, organized a two-day workshop on the Bar Model Method aimed at enhancing the understanding and teaching of basic mathematical operations among teachers. The program focused on equipping educators with innovative strategies to make mathematics learning more meaningful and engaging for students at the elementary level.

The workshop was coordinated by Dr. N. P. Uniyal (Senior faculty of the Institute) and Mr. Ashok Kandpal from the Azim Premji Foundation (APF), who guided the participants through various sessions demonstrating how bar models can be effectively used to teach addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Through hands-on activities and interactive discussions, participants explored how visual representation of problems helps in building conceptual clarity and problem-solving skills in young learners.

In his address, the Principal of DIET Pauri Garhwal, Mr Swaraj Singh Tomar appreciated the efforts of the resource persons and emphasized the importance of implementing such innovative teaching-learning approaches in schools. He appealed to all participants to integrate the Bar Model approach in their classroom practices to strengthen students’ understanding of basic mathematics at the ground level.

Teachers from across the district participated in the workshop with great enthusiasm and active involvement. They expressed that the sessions helped them gain practical insights into the Singapore-based Bar Model approach and its relevance in improving students’ mathematical reasoning.

The two-day event concluded with an open discussion, feedback session, and a commitment from participants to apply the Bar Model method in their respective schools to make mathematics learning more visual, engaging, and effective.
