The Barkha Series is a collection of graded reading books developed by NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training) to promote reading skills among early learners, particularly in primary school children.
Purpose of the Barkha Series
Promote Early Reading – Designed to develop and enhance reading skills among children, especially those from marginalized backgrounds.
Encourage Joyful Learning – The books contain engaging stories with colorful illustrations to make reading enjoyable.
Support Language Development – Focuses on improving language proficiency, catering to beginner and intermediate levels.
Culturally Relevant Content – Stories reflect Indian culture, rural and urban life, and everyday experiences, making them relatable to children.
Bridge the Literacy Gap – Helps first-generation learners and children from diverse backgrounds to develop confidence in reading.

Structure of the Series
The series includes 40 books divided into 4 levels, progressing from simple to complex text.
Levels are based on the difficulty of vocabulary, sentence structure, and content.
Designed to complement the NCERT Hindi curriculum for primary education.
